Sophie Moon is a junior at the University of Montana, studying Environmental Studies and Political Science. As a freshman, she was a lead explainer at the Brain Lab in the SpectrUM Discovery Area where she was introduced to the power of female leadership in conventionally male dominated fields, specifically in STEM. During this time, Sophie also began interning with the Montana Public Interest Research Group (MontPIRG) for their campaign to Save the Smith River and was awarded Outstanding Volunteer Award from the UM Office for Civic Engagement. As a sophomore, she began volunteering for Garden City Harvest at their Orchard Gardens location, which peaked her interest in social justice and sustainable food systems. Sophie is now the Chair of the Board of Directors of MontPIRG and will be an intern at the PEAS Farm this fall.  When she is not deconstructing the patriarchy, she enjoys reading political theory in the sunshine and gardening.
