THE NITTY GRITTY:

Voter Registration: Each time we register someone to vote, we're engaging in conversations about what could make our democracy better.

IN 2017: WE'RE REGISTERING 4,000 PEOPLE TO VOTE.

Volunteer Mobilization & Education: A democracy that reflects our communities necessitates that our peers and neighbors are given peer to peer reminders to vote and culturally accessible and relevant information about candidates.

IN 2017: WE'RE CONTACTING 20,000 YOUNG MONTANANS TO REMIND THEM TO VOTE.

Leadership Development: A better democracy doesn't just mean more and better informed voters, but more and better informed leaders. We're training young people to lead all Montanans through our internship and fellowship programs.

IN 2017: WE'RE GRADUATING 80 INTERNS & FELLOWS FROM OUR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS PLUS we're honoring 25 badass Young Montanans through 25 Under 25.

At Forward Montana Foundation we engage our friends and  peers not as the next generation of leaders in Montana but as the current leaders.

THE CHALLENGES:

  1. Ballots are confusing and the long list of candidates and issues can be scary for first time voters.

  2. The voter registration process excludes young people who move frequently and have yet to develop the habit of voting.

  3. Politics exclude young people. It’s boring, unattractive, and not fun.

OUR SOLUTIONS:

  1. We train young people. From how to organize other young people to the importance of voting and how issues and candidates affect our lives.

  2. We mobilize young people. The best way to talk to young people is with other young people. We mobilize hundreds of volunteers throughout the state of Montana to talk to their peers about voting.

  3. We educate young people. We use peer-to-peer contact and internship classes to teach the next generation of Montanans how to be leaders in their communities.
