MISSOULA COMMUNITY OUTREACH FELLOW

We are seeking one field fellow to complete direct voter engagement and relationship building work in Missoula, Montana. This will include voter registration, volunteer recruitment, and some event planning. No previous experience needed; on the job training will be provided. This position will work directly with the Western Montana Field Manager based in Missoula to achieve field goals and metrics in a timely fashion.  

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Community Outreach Fellow will work remotely working to develop and strengthen the relationship between low income young people and the democratic process. This will include but is not limited to voter registration, voter mobilization and some event planning. Occasional travel and a willingness to work unconventional work hours will be necessary to fulfill the expectations of this position. You won't be tied to a desk, you'll meet lots of people, and you'll make change happen at the grassroots level.

Forward Montana/Forward Montana Foundation is dedicated to the grassroots training of new leaders through hands-on activism; as such, the fellowship provides lots opportunity for professional development. Applicants should be self motivated and accountable while bringing a sense of humor to their work.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Identify and prioritize locations for voter registration efforts

  • Meet set field metrics each week
  • Attend relevant community meetings
  • Recruit and train volunteers
  • Conduct occasional data entry
  • Collaborate with community partners on a city wide voter registration drive for National Voter Registration Day.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion for progressive politics in Montana

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • Enthusiastically engages in conversation with strangers
  • Able to work weekends and evenings

PREFERRED SKILLSETS: 

  • Experience living or working in Missoula, MT

  • Experience with Google Docs

  • An understanding of systemic oppression

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Field hours will be completed in all weather conditions

 

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be able to stand for up to 4 hour periods
  • Must be able to work independently

This is a temporary stipended position reporting to the Western Montana Field Manager. Field fellows will be paid $1300 over the 13 week fellowship. Women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
